Here’s What I Hope Congress Will (and Won’t) Do in 2027

It’s the morning after Election Day. I’m loading and reloading the headlines noting the many synonyms for “rout.”

It’ll take time for the results to sink in, but here’s my first, tiny sprout of a hope:

🌱 I want accountability for the lawlessness and corruption of the last two years. But more than that I want a government that WORKS.

I want Congress to treat January 2027 like the opening pitch in a very long game. That means leadership, compromise, and leveling with voters about hard choices that will have to be made. No one’s getting everything on their wish list.

It means working as a team despite not agreeing on every policy and position. It means making the tough calls, owning mistakes and doing the slow, boring work of repair.

It means excellent storytelling starting NOW. Help us envision a hopeful, realistic path forward. Give us concrete examples of what a better future can look like.

We don’t need perfection, but we do need to see mature, decent, competent human beings doing their jobs. Every day. You’ve been chosen to represent us. Show us you’re listening, and not only to the people who voted for you. SHOW US.

I DON’T want to spend 2027-2028 watching an orgy of mocking, showboating, revenge and unreality. I want out of this Upside Down hellscape.

Help us begin to heal.

Oh, and I want Pete Hegseth impeached.
